This famous presidential photo of John Fitzgerald Kennedy at the wheel of the USCG yacht Manitou was taken by Robert Leroy Knudsen. The President was sailing with Hugh D. Auchincloss, Mrs. Auchincloss, and others during their vacation at Hammersmith Farm, the summer home of the Jackie Kennedy.

Knudsen’s photographs chronicled most of the major events at the White House for nearly three decades.
